History of Penfield
Penfield, NY is a town in Monroe County in the state of New York, with a population of just over 36,000 residents. The town began as a vacant plot of land, purchased in 1795 by a man named Daniel Penfield. Daniel’s original house still stands in the city.
The land was once part of hunting grounds used by the Seneca Indians, but they were divided and parceled out after the American Revolutionary War. The Town of Penfield was officially established in 1810 and the first Town Hall was built 85 years later, in 1895. That same building still stands in the city, as do many other historic structures.
