History of East Rochester
East Rochester, NY was originally settled as a residential housing community in 1897. It was designated for the dedicated workers at the New York Central Railroad, the freight forwarding service Merchants Despatch Corporation. The village also became home to workers at the Aeolian Piano Corporation.
In 1906, the village was incorporated and designed as the East Rochester we know today, alluding to its proximity with its thriving neighbor, Rochester, New York.
Points of pride in East Rochester include the city’s Little League baseball team, who captured the Senior Little League World Championship in 1966. The city’s post office was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. The original buildings of the Aeolian Piano Corporation are also still in use, as shopping centers and office complexes in this fascinating city.

As of the 2000 census, there were just over 6,600 people residing in East Rochester, NY with an average household size of 2.3 individuals. The racial composition of the city was over 95% white and just over 1% black. Of 2,774 households in the city, less than 30% had children under the age of 18 living with them, and less than 40% were married couples.
East Rochester NY High Schools
East Rochester, NY is served by the East Rochester Union Free School District. This comprises one high school, the East Rochester Senior High School. The school serves less than 600 students and the student-to-teacher ratio is about 12 to 1.
